13-year-old Ochanya buried in Benue State

It was a day of mourning in the Ogene-Amejo, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State as 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje who was raped by her aunt’s husband and his son over a course of 5 years was laid to rest.

The burial was attended by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Comfort Ladi-Ajene, who described Ochanya’s death as painful and touching.

Representing the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, the commissioner said the suspension of the alleged rapist, Andrew Ogbuja from his place of work, Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo, has been approved.

Ochanya’s death has led to major protests online and offline.
